Japeechen District Fall Camporee:  Camp Twin Echo
October, 2001

Troop 380 was the sponsoring troop for this year's fall camporee.
This was a huge job, and it was, of course, run almost completely by the Scouts.

Here's what it was like:

This was the firestarting event--each patrol got to see how fast it could
start a firer big enough to burn the suspended string.

This was plant identification: basically a scavenger hunt for native plant species. The plants were only identified, not picked, part of Scouting's Leave No Trace philosophy.

Many fine patrol flags were proudly displayed.

John D. was in charge of the Orienteering course.  Our district has some mighty fine compass jockeys!

Knot tying is an old Scouting favorite. Who remembers their boline?

These guys are out for fame and glory in the patrol competition.

Of course, in addition to running the camporee, the patrols of Troop 380 still
had to eat, and nobody was cooking for them! This was the scene at Saturday
lunch.

The afternoon was spent building catapults for water bombs.

Everybody got wet! Lucky the weather was perfect.

Two scenes from the 380 campsite.  So many Scouts and Leaders attened
this event that it seemed like a tent city.

The backpack packing event.  What to take and what to leave behind?
