Welcome Back! I hope your summer was as much a learning experience as it was fun! I know that many of you have some excellent experiences to share and we look forward to hearing them.
I anticipate that this Scouting year will be filled with activities and programs that will capture your interest and motivate you to continue to achieve your best. The Troop must be Scout powered and Scout led, so we will need to choose Scout Leaders that will make the Troop go and grow.
This year the Troop Committee has decided that we will follow the traditional Scout model and have elections for only the Senior Patrol Leader (SPL) and the individual Patrol Leaders (PLs). All other Troop positions will be appointed by the SPL or the PLs subject to some guidance and consent from me. All positions will be for only the first half of the Scout Year.
I have asked Mr. Lockwood, Josh’s Dad to run this first election for us. He will be the Point of Contact (POC) for any questions that you may have. His address is in our Troop Directory and you can reach him at 412-781-0251 or at bjrlockwood@comcast.net.
Our first meeting is Monday, September 11th. At that time we will talk a little about Leadership, the Troop election process and distribute additional forms and information. At our meeting on Monday September 18th we will elect the Senior Patrol Leader (SPL). At our meeting on Monday September 25th we will elect the Patrol Leaders and begin the process of filling the appointed leadership positions.
I need your help to make this work. I have attached a listing of the leadership positions available in the Troop and my expectations of anyone serving in those positions. At the end of the list is a Self Nomination Form for you to indicate the positions in which you would like to serve.
Prior to September 15th, I need any Scout that would like to run for Senior Patrol Leader (SPL) to complete and return their Self Nomination Form to Mr. Lockwood. Other Scouts may return their form and we will retain them, but the forms indicating SPL as a first preference of elected position will form the ballot for the SPL election on the 18th. If you are interested in being an Assistant Senior Patrol Leader (ASPL) you must have your form to Mr. Lockwood before the end of the meeting on the 18th.
All forms need to be returned to Mr. Lockwood by September 22nd. Any form indicating Patrol Leader (PL) as a first or second choice for elected position will be on the ballot for the PL election on the 25th.
All forms submitted but not belonging to the SPL, an ASPL or one of the PLs will be used in offering the Appointed Leadership Positions. A timeline is attached to assist in determining when your Self Nomination Form needs to be returned.
Please consider Leadership in the Troop and Service to your fellow Scouts seriously and discuss it with your parents or guardian and gain their consent.
I am looking forward to a fun and active year.
